About the Corazón Construction Program
Providing Shelter, Security, and Hope
Corazón house builds are successful because of our volunteers.
Volunteer groups, led by trained and experienced lead builders, work together to build 16x20 homes for families in just ONE day.
No experience is necessary to volunteer on these projects!
Volunteers who have demonstrated long-term dedication to Corazón can earn a Green shirt, Red shirt, or Blue shirt as a thank you for their commitment and service.
Volunteer Leadership Path
Green Shirt Volunteer - A Green Shirt Volunteer is a Corazón volunteer who has attended at least five (5) construction projects with their group over the years. Green Shirt Volunteers come back year after year and are dedicated to supporting Corazón's mission long term.
Red Shirt Volunteer - A Red Shirt Volunteer is a Corazón volunteer who has attended at least four (4) construction projects in one calendar year and has expressed a commitment to becoming more involved, often with the goal of becoming a Blue Shirt Volunteer.
Blue Shirt Volunteer - A Blue Shirt Volunteer is a Corazón volunteer who has attended at least ten (10) construction projects in one calendar year. Blue Shirt Volunteers understand the Corazón Construction process and hold sufficient experience to help the Lead Builder guide volunteer groups throughout their build.
Lead Builder - Lead Builders are trained Corazón volunteers who oversee building activities throughout a build day. They coordinate volunteers, assign tasks, ensure safety procedures are followed, and help each group successfully complete its project. Anyone interested in becoming a Lead Builder is encouraged to contact [email protected] to learn about upcoming training opportunities.
Construction Projects & Costs
While Corazón is best known for our "Build a House in One Day" program, we also complete a variety of home improvement projects throughout the year. These projects are carried out either with volunteer groups or as locally managed projects to help families create safer, healthier homes.
