OUR MISSION

Exhibiting God's love by building community, strengthening families, enabling service, promoting self-sufficiency, and inspiring mutually beneficial relationships across borders.

What that means in practice

Corazón has worked in the same communities in Baja California for more than 48 years. We are based in Santa Ana, California, and the families we work alongside live in six communities in Tijuana and Tecate. Most of the people who make it happen are volunteers.

The work rests on one idea: families are not helped by things being done for them. They are helped by being given the tools, the security and the opportunity to do it themselves. A Corazón house is not a gift handed over at the door and forgotten. We stay in the community afterwards.

Programs

Construction. Teams of volunteers build a 16' x 20' home in a single day, led by trained volunteer leaders. Every build is funded by a sponsor group, and no construction experience is needed to join one.

Family and community. Our community centers are open to everyone — a safe place for learning, meetings, childcare, workshops and events, with food assistance, free Wi-Fi and access to support services.

Why it works across a border

Corazón is a cross-border organization by design. Volunteers travel down from Southern California; the staff and families they work with live in Baja California. Those relationships have lasted decades on both sides of the border. That is the "mutually beneficial" part of the mission statement, and it is not a figure of speech.
