Students who participate in our sewing classes must commit to three sessions of 9 classes each. After graduation, they are eligible to "earn hours" by sewing projects for Corazón during sewing lab hours, or use the machines for their own projects.
Classes run from 9 AM to 12 PM on the second, third and fourth Sunday of January, February, March, May, June, July, September, October and November. We meet at "E" Street at 8:00 AM and return to "E" Street between 1:30 and 2:00 PM depending on traffic at the border. We always need teachers, translators, material, supplies, patterns, and sewing tools.
We also have a Sewing Lab at the same location on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, all year long. During the lab classes, recent graduates can come to the center to make personal items or work on community projects and earn "hours" that can later be exchanged for items their family needs. The students should be self-contained during the lab, but may need occasional help with machine problems, or have questions about how to go about a certain project.
