Exchanges

There are no handouts in Corazón, all items are earned through working in the community.  Having exchange items, such as food, clothing, blankets, furniture, repair materials and toys, is integral for the program to function.  These exchanges offer motivation for work, while allowing the participants the opportunity to maintain their pride, self-esteem and to feel empowered.

The work that the participants do can vary from teaching or assisting a class, helping to repair a neighbor's home, working in the day care center or office or cooking for a sick neighbor. As they work, they build friendships, alliances, support systems and community.

The Corazón warehouse, one located in each of our 5 communities, offer the families an opportunity to make their house a home.

Text Box: Each community has a warehouse to store food, clothing, furniture and other exchange items.
