Blue Shirts

Blue Shirts are the dedicated volunteers who provide leadership and support to Corazón's program activities.  Whether working in the warehouse or office, teaching classes, or assisting the lead builder and trip coordinator, the Blue Shirt they wear is a symbol that they have made a long term commitment to helping, and that other volunteers can go to them for instruction, advice, or additional information about the specific task at hand.

Corazón offers a variety of articles for sale but the Blue Shirt is one thing we will not sell you.  You earn the Blue Shirt by your enthusiasm to become more involved as a volunteer.  We have created a process for earning first a Red Shirt, and then a Blue Shirt.  The Red Shirt signifies Blue Shirt apprentices. We want to be sure that all those who wear this shirt have truly earned it.  Corazón will work with all volunteers to give them the opportunities to earn this coveted shirt

Earning a Red Shirt
You must complete five Corazón projects
    * a maximum of 3 construction projects with different sponsor groups
    * attend orientation meeting – available in U.S. and Mexico
You may complete other projects in Mexico and the U.S.[1]
All projects must be completed within one year. All projects must be signed by approved Corazón volunteers.

Earning a Blue Shirt
Once you have your Red Shirt, you must again complete 5 projects, with the same requirements as above. You must also chose a mentor. We will supply you with a list of trained mentors.

All existing volunteers who are interested will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine where they are in the process.
